It deliberately stops before safe-load selection because catalog MBL, design factor, termination, reeving, dynamics, equipment geometry, and jurisdiction must be evaluated together. Selection logic

  1. 1.Identify the equipment, rope function, reeving, drum, sheaves, grooves, fleet angle, speed, travel, and duty before comparing constructions.
  2. 2.Use exact construction, diameter, core, grade, lay, finish, lubrication, and certificate MBL from the proposed rope specification.
  3. 3.Have the responsible engineer apply the governing design factor, dynamics, reeving, termination efficiency, and equipment requirements outside this reference.
  4. 4.Transfer the complete system data, inspection rules, termination, reel, installation, and documentation needs into the RFQ.

Limits

  • The reference does not produce safe working load, allowable line pull, service life, discard decision, or lifting-system certification.
  • Generic construction classes can contain different wire patterns, cores, grades, compaction, and performance. The exact manufacturer designation and certificate control.
  • MBL values should not be inferred from a visually similar rope or transferred across diameter, grade, core, finish, or construction.

Error recovery

  • If the equipment or reeving data is absent, stop at data collection and request the machine manual or manufacturer specification.
  • If MBL is entered without a source designation and certificate basis, mark it unverified and do not calculate a working load.
  • If termination, swivel use, lay direction, or drum winding is unknown, request installation details before proposing a rope construction.

Frequently asked questions

Does this reference calculate safe working load?

No. It records construction and MBL evidence for an RFQ. A qualified person must apply the governing rules, equipment data, reeving, dynamics, termination efficiency, and exact certified rope.

Can two ropes in the same construction class share one MBL?

No assumption should be made. Diameter, wire grade, core, compaction, finish, construction detail, and manufacturer design can change the certified MBL.

Why are sheave and drum dimensions required?

Bending radius, groove fit, fleet angle, reverse bends, and layer winding affect fatigue, abrasion, crushing, spooling, and the suitability of a rope construction.
